New fast speed passenger Wi-Fi service
Heathrow is pleased to announce the launch of the fastest passenger Wi-Fi service in a UK airport. From the beginning of March 2019 passengers at all Heathrow terminals have been able to enjoy its new fast-speed Wi-Fi service with a speed of 100Mbps (Megabytes per second).
To allow both business and leisure passengers online connectivity during their time at the airport, the access to the Wi-Fi service will be provided as unlimited.
Passengers can have peace of mind knowing they can book their last-minute travel insurance or car hire, arrange a taxi pick-up, pre-order groceries for their return home or simply video-call family and friends from the terminal. Also, by downloading the Heathrow App passengers can order food from their favourite restaurants at the airport to collect before boarding their flight1. Family-leisure passengers can keep children entertained on their devices enabling a relaxed travel experience through Heathrow; while business travellers can have peace of mind that they are able to send that urgent email before they board their flight.
Heathrow has partnered with Boingo, a world-class wireless partner to provide this new fast-speed Wi-Fi service at the airport. Boingo has been named “Best Wi-Fi Service” nine times by Global Traveler magazine and stood out for managing premier networks at some of the largest airports in the world2. Boingo’s new Passpoint3 technology delivers a next-generation, secure Wi-Fi experience and will enable passengers at Heathrow to seamlessly roam between Wi-Fi and cellular for a ubiquitous connected experience.
Heathrow has made investments to upgrade the wireless network across the airport ensuring bandwidth capacity and Boingo has installed 2 new high-speed internet links at the airport as part of the overhaul of the passenger Wi-Fi service.
The new Wi-Fi service also offers opportunities for brand sponsorships and advertisements to concessionaires associated with Heathrow4.
